About Us
Fremantle City Coldstores is a joint venture between Seagroup Pty Ltd (Paino Family) & Big Buoy Pty Ltd (Ricciardi Seafoods). Discussions commenced in 1997 with the Project taking approx 18 months to complete. Peter Anderson (dec), was the Project Manager who coordinated building construction and on completion, appointed General Manager of the coldstorage facility.
Rewind to the beginning...
On the 5th May 2001, Fremantle City Coldstores was officially opened for business by the directors of the company. The cold storage facility is constructed of concrete external walls overlaying Bondor freezer panelling; this provides added security to the facility protection from the elements as well as additional insulation, resulting in power savings. The cold store was originally designed and built with two large cold stores and one smaller cold store with a small chilled area in the dock.
Over the years, the cold stores have made numerous modifications and improvements to the premises. The chiller was moved from the dock into one of the cold stores, a blast freezer was installed which gave the cold stores another avenue by which it could generate income through the freezing of various products. Later a plate freezing chamber was constructed which housed four plates freezers equating to some 21,000 tonnes of freezing capacity.
More recently...
FCC extended original building allowing us to install a second blast freezer chamber. We then removed the 21,000kg plate freezer and replaced this area with 80,000kg of blast freezing capacity.
In late 2008, the cold stores invested heavily in purchasing a new state of the art Mycom screw compressor and V.S.D system to reduce the running costs of the cold stores and handle the additional freezing capacity that was placed onto the plant once the final extension was completed. At present, the cold stores have the capacity to be able to close down one refrigeration plant and use the alternate back up refrigeration plant which enables us to service and maintain our plant to the highest standards.
Current Day...
Moving forward to current day, the chiller was removed, and in early 2020, in its place, 3 additional blast freezers installed to bring total blast freezing capacity to 240,000kg. In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint, FCC converted all lighting to LED’s and installed a 200kW Solar PV system.
The progressive advancement of facility infrastructure has enabled FCC to provide efficient, modern cold storage solutions whilst addressing increasing blast freezing requirement to service our major clients.
